I am SO HAPPY with how this little guy turned out!
I bought a huge box of white sculpy the other day, and I've been trying to think of things I want to use to display on my booth at Jet City, and I came up with this idea! It turned out EXACTLY as I imagined it would!
Made using a ball of aluminum foil at the center of his mantle and then pure sculpy throughout the rest of him.
Baked and then hand painted with Acrylic paints. I decided to use a gradient effect with his suckers going from light purple to orange to yellow, and I really like how that turned out.
The card he is holding in the last picture is a playing card for Munchkin's Cthulhu.
I WOULD LOVE FEEDBACK!
I'm considering making more of these guys and selling them. Is there a market?
My favorite part about this little piece is how the holding space is incorporated in the sculpture, not a strange spare part hanging off the side that is unrelated to the design. Your chosen creature to sculpt for this purpose was a good choice, the octopus is a simple creature, but the tentacles add to the complexity of the design and made it very interesting but at the same time easy for the eyes to understand. The painting and sculpting is also very neat and clean, making it look like something from a factory, but i know that factories don't make anything this cool.
I think it is a very creative and interesting idea. Very adorable. I love the way you painted it. It is definitely an eye catcher and original I love it, and hell I would buy one ^-^. Great i still need 60 words TT_TT I am a horrible writer. I declare that the rest shall be blahs XD. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah sorry bout that all well great sculpture!
Aw, cute! I love the eyes and the colors. :3 It's a bit of a pity that most of the salient parts of the sculpture are hidden behind the card, though. I hope he can hold more than one business card at a time, or you'll be busy restocking that little guy constantly! xD
Lol, how I ended up using him is having him hold my business card, then sat him on top of the stack so they wouldn't blow away. He can hold around 6 cards at a time, though.
Thank you! I'm going to be making more in different colors and slightly different poses, I plan on selling them for around $25 a piece. If you are interested in getting a custom one, you can note me.
Wonderful work! You beat me to making one of these. Although I was gonna go with ceramic since polymer clay is a bit too light for me. (I for some reason want the card holder to be somewhat heavy). XD But seriously, awesome work! Love the coloring effect you did on the tentacles.
He actually is still pretty heavy, even with the tin-foil construction in the center, I was surprised! And thank you, It took me a while to decide how I wanted to do the tentacles, I'm glad you like that little touch.
If you do end up making something like this, can I see it?
Oh really? Hm, when I made one (not made for holding cards) it didn't come out very heavy at all. XD (Here it is if you want to see it: [link] ) But yeah, so that's why I decided that maybe ceramic would satisfy the heaviness for me.

Keep up the awesomeness
